Saturday Telegraph 8/12/07

BBI: Piers is relentless. Kevin Rudd hasn`t done everything he said he would in three weeks. Of Course, John Howard hasn`t been able to leave Kirribilli yet.

"Grocery prices haven’t dropped, petrol prices were higher than they have been for months, housing is just as inaccessible or unaffordable as it has always been and there as many Aussie troops in Iraq as there were three weeks ago. "

"Way to go, Kevin. "...

"Rudd has made lots of leadership noises but has so far failed to exhibit any real leadership traits beyond those of a middle-level public servant anxious to cling to power with calls for consultations, commissions and enquiries. "

"Voters are entitled to ask if this is all they can expect over the next three years. "...

"Meanwhile, the new Opposition leader, Brendan Nelson, moved rapidly to clear one impediment to his leadership, admitting that he was not telling the truth when he made his 1993 claim never to have voted Liberal. "

"It was, he told the Australian newspaper, a heat of the moment remark made when he was surrounded by burly trade union leaders at a heated rally. "

"Not a major mea culpa, but similar to the excuse he offered during his 1995 Liberal Party preselection interview, and the party officials went along with it on that occasion. "

BBI: If the liberal party preselectors accepted Brendan`s word, then OK. Still,we think that Piers is going to soon become exhausted, thinking up things to bag Rudd with, and at the same time getting ready for Christmas drinkies and keeping enough energy ready to fight bushfires in his role as volunteer fireman. How does he keep up the pace?

The Daily Telegraph 5/12/07

BBI: After the demise of the Liberal Party as we know it, many of the right wing journos are going along softly, softly. But not Piers. He is as strident as ever. To read Gerard and Mirand, and others waffle vacuously is boring, but Piers is made of sterner stuff!

"HOURS after being sworn in as Prime Minister on Monday, Kevin Rudd thrust his hand deep into the pocket of every Australian. "

"The new Rudd-Labor Government’s first act, the signing of the Kyoto Protocols, may be seen by many as largely symbolic. It is not. "

"It’s a piece of international vanity me-tooism that will be charged against every Australian business and household through increased electricity charges and, very possibly, through charges against the national accounts should Australia fail to meet its carbon emissions reduction target. "

"Rudd-Labor has effectively locked the nation into using greater amounts of the less efficient and more costly energy sources such as wind and solar power while opposing nuclear energy. "

BBI: Piers then quotes "some experts" who predict giant rises in electrical costs and says it is because Rudd had to buy Green votes. Then he goes on about the Carbon footprint required for the trip to Bali. And then takes the chance to put the boot into Garrett, who has been barred from speaking about this trip.

"No doubt Rudd hopes to use the Bali conference as an international grandstand for his new Government while ignoring the fact that host nation Indonesia is a notorious polluter which has been unable to rein in rogue logging companies linked to the Indonesian Government. "

"Having achieved Government with the support of guilt-ridden Greens, Rudd will also turn a blind eye to recent research which notes that Green scientists have been exaggerating the dangers of climate change. "...

"But if they want modelling, a group of researchers has estimated the cost of Rudd’s 20 per cent renewable energy policy will be in the order of $6650 per household per year.

"Their calculation is based on the installation of some 8000sq km of solar panels worth $64 billion in 12 years, which will also see a doubling in the greenhouse gas emissions and the release of carcinogenic cadmium sulphate for the first time. "

"Little wonder then that Rudd will be accompanied by four new ministers when he jets to the Bali conference to bask in the gooey-green limelight - he will want someone to share the blame when Australians start getting their electricity bills."

BBI: Piers is truly persistent. He is continuing the fear campaign which was discredited in the last Federal election campaign.

The Daily Telegraph 18/11/07

BBI: We think Piers is becoming shrill in his desperation. A bit like many of the right wing journos. It must be a problem when you have been an insider (Piers, unlike Costello, dines with Howard) and now you will be outside the decision maker`s circle. Anyway, here is a bit of Piers` rearguard action.

"A YEAR ago, Kevin Rudd was busy secretly white-anting then Opposition leader Kim Beazley and sniping at the "small target" strategy adopted by the big West Australian."

"At the same time that he was leaking against the then ALP leader, he was publicly declaring his loyalty to Beazley. .."

"Having Gillard a heartbeat away from being the prospective prime minister is not the only reward the Left expects. It will determine ALP policy, should Labor win next Saturday, and it is staking out its territory already, particularly over industrial relations..."

BBI: He talks of deals done with the left (as though that is bad) and goes on to propose possible overseas appointments for Beazley, Carr and Beattie. Let us think back, has Howard offered any inducements to some of his fallen comrades. Hill comes to mind straight away.

"The polls show the public believes the Coalition has the economic credentials and it must hammer this message home every minute of every hour until next Saturday's polls close. "

"The Reserve Bank is worried about the economy, the US Federal Reserve is worried about the economy and so, too, should the voters be."

BBI: Everybody is worried about the economy, especially the myth that Howard and Costello have done well. Piers finishes with a line that we do not think is even close to true.

"The polls suggest that the risk to the economic wellbeing of the nation has never been greater. "

BBI: Which poll is that?

................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 13/11/07

BBI: Piers is exhausting. How does he think of such petty things to cavil about. He is now complaining that Kevin Rudd has ripped off someone`s idea to ease the burden for first home buyers. What? Does Rudd have to think of everything himself? And no mention of Howard yesterday taking Labor ideas of childcare and education.

"OPPOSITION Leader Kevin Rudd’s “me-too” grab for policies apparently doesn’t stop with photocopying Coalition pledges. "

"An independent property market expert now claims his proposal to ease the burden for first-home buyers is actually a rip-off of a scheme she proposed exactly one year ago. "

BBI: Today`s column is absolute drivel, Piers. Lift your game, mate.

............................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 7/11/07

"FAIRFAX chief executive David “Captain” Kirk has praised the ALP’s proposed changes to Freedom of Information laws and suggested the Coalition play me-too politics on the issue. "

"He has to be joking. "

"Overlooking the reality that Labor’s me-too approach is nothing but sheer laziness, one wonders in which universe Kirk lives to be unaware of the ALP and Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd’s approach to FOI in practice. "

BBI: This gives Piers the chance to once again claim that documents were lost in Queensland when Kevin Rudd worked for Goss. And it gives him the chance to once again raise "the Heiner affair". Mind you, he had to restrain himself for most of the column. It is spoken of in hushed tones in the second last paragraph. Well done Piers, you really showed patience. Unfortunately there is nothing in it. More unfortunately some readers will believe you, after all, 38% of Telegraph readers don`t know what Kyoto is.

........................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 5/11/07

BBI: Piers is obviously getting worried about his dear leader`s seat of Bennelong. Though it is possible he wrote this piece at the behest of the same dear leader. He is bagging Maxine McKew through association with John Watkins, Deputy Premier of NSW.

"FOR the past 10 months, the Deputy Premier of NSW, John Watkins, has devoted himself to mentoring former ABC star Maxine McKew, Labor’s candidate for Bennelong. "

"The state member for Ryde has taken on the role of Minister for Maxine in addition to his Transport and Finance portfolios. "

"The ALP must be hoping he has greater success in this new role than he has had with his former and current ministries. "

BBI: He lists all of Watkin`s crimes ( some of which we agree with ) then goes for the jugular with rumour and innuendo...

"There is also the very serious question of the degree of his knowledge, when he was police minister, of the nasty rumours which circulated about former colleague Milton Orkopoulos. "

"Watkins, as leader of the Left faction, would have almost certainly been aware of the stories about the alleged child sex offender, but there is no evidence that he ever took any action. "

BBI: How`s the Heiner affair going Piers? Fair dinkum, you don`t worry about facts when rumour will suffice, do you? So his column bags Watkins, and therefore by association, McKew. Howard must be seriously worried.

"Whatever the reason for their association, local voters should carefully consider the judgment of a candidate who spends so much time in the company of an individual who has so disastrously and so serially failed the people of NSW. "

BBI: As a matter of interest there is a facebook group entitled "If Maxine wins Bennelong, I`m buying the drinks." We have joined.

.................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 4/11/07

"THIS month's election should be as open as the Melbourne Cup and, on its form, the ALP would be all but unbackable, but the polls' relentless support for Labor indicates there may be as many mug voters as there are mug punters willing to throw away their money."

"Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd, the Pied Piper of the Y Generation, looks set to sweep to victory with his me-too policies, though the effects of shadow environment spokesman Peter Garrett's admission that "once we get in, we'll just change it all'' are still to register."

BBI: We all knew that Piers would love Garrett`s gaffe. He and other right-wing warriors will be riding this one for a long time. But to show he is even handed, Piers tries to drag down Gillard (defending the me-too polcies) and Rudd ( all things to all people).

"Rudd, the ultimate in empty vessels, is happy to sing along with the crowd."

"As it happens, most nations that fell for the Kyoto con won't meet their targets and will wind up buying carbon credits from countries like Russia, which had to close down some of its clunky old nuclear plants in the post-Chernobyl era. "

"While sensible Australia will meet its target, New Zealand's is expected to blow out by 13 per cent and our little green neighbour will find itself in the hole for somewhere between half a billion or a billion dollars. "

BBI: Sensible Australia, the only country to have been able to increase their greenhouse emission during the first Kyoto discussions. We are the shame of the whole process, not sensible at all. We are the biggest emitter pro rata to population in the world.

"Rudd and Garrett and Greens leader Bob Brown are still deluding their blind followers with the notion that renewable energy sources can do the heavy lifting but the evidence says otherwise."

BBI: Not the evidence we read.

"Labor has stupidly, doggedly, rejected the nuclear option embraced by Europe, so its water policy is totally unachievable without the construction of new coal-fired, greenhouse-gas-emitting power stations."

BBI: Piers may be asked to not mention nuclear till after the election. John Howard isn`t saying much about it. And Piers closes with another reminder of Garrett with Steve Price. Naturally.

The Daily Telegraph 31/10/07

"IF 38 per cent of people polled this week by The Daily Telegraph thought the Kyoto Protocol was the treaty which ended WWII, who do they think Bob Hawke is when they see the Silver Bodgie sashaying through the local RSL in his white slip-ons?"

BBI: We think that Piers misses the irony of the fact that it is Telegraph readers who don`t understand what Kyoto is? They are the same people who read you, Piers. Could it be that Telly readers are badly informed?

"While Prime Minister John Howard and Treasurer Peter Costello have been careful to pay due attention to the reforms of the Hawke-Keating era, the ALP’s ageing but resilient duo have been more reticent to pay tribute to the groundwork laid by Howard in his days as treasurer. "

"They’ve also been less than flattering about the Howard-Costello team. "

BBI: Piers assures us that Howard did a lot of great work when he was treasurer under Fraser. Then he quotes Gerard Henderson as proof. We are starting to see a pattern here. Piers then lists a number of headlines over the years regarding former Labor governments. Not flattering for Labor, but then Piers is doing his job. Just as he did in 2003 when he attacked Tanya Plibersek for thinking that despite the surrender of Saddam`s forces, she didn`t think the war was over yet. He said..

"It has been a month since the Leftist Federal Member for Sydney promised to ‘be the first’ to tuck into a titfer if ‘this war is over quickly and we find an Iraqi population that has welcomed it’ but, despite all the evidence, she remains adamant that ‘the war’s not over yet’."

"Promising to snack on a hat is not the only silly remark Ms Plibersek made in the lead-up to the conflict and some of her statements now bear repeating because they illustrate the dilemma the ALP, particularly members of its Left, now faces ..."

"Indeed, in our conversation she happily attempted to duck responsibility for the ill-informed and inaccurate claims she made two months ago that ‘90 per cent of the casualties of modern wars are non-combatants’."

BBI: So who was right about that one Piers? Seems its Tanya (1), Piers (0). Half a million dead, 4 million displaced. Read "The Noise Makers" in articles for further information.

.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 29/10/07

"ONE of the biggest problems faced by the political commentariat in this election is its lack of focus."

BBI: No one could accuse Piers of lack of focus. There is not one other journalist who is as focused as Piers on keeping Howard in power. Piers has tried everything. Throwing mud from "the Heiner Affair" on many occasions ( it didn`t stick, Piers), writing an article headed "WhyRudd is not fit to rule" (where Piers uses the Kevin Andrews line, I know something but I can`t tell you) and a squillion others of that ilk. Now he is running the "who is Kevin Rudd" line. We don`t really know him, apart from the ear-wax incident. Piers apologises for bringing that up, but he thought we ought to know.

"It is such a revolting vision that even the retelling can evoke a sense of revulsion but nevertheless, it has been viewed more than 188,000 times and there are pages of comments on this unusual habit. "

"Or, whether the spin meisters have been too busy blustering through the interest rate discussion to pay much attention to their candidate’s extraordinary diet. "

BBI: Thanks Piers, for risking that sense of revulsion so that you could tell us. Then on to Howard..

"Howard described the challenge he faced, he met that challenge a year later, and his Government is still meeting that challenge today. "

"Rudd’s campaign handlers are relying on the media not to look closely at what the Dear Leader says and, largely, they’ve been right. "

"He has had a dream run. "

"But as it is now apparent that almost his every statement contains a major flaw hiding in plain sight, the level of scrutiny may increase. "

BBI: Poor Piers looks like having a miserable time for the next three or six, or nine years or so. He may be forced to say more distasteful things.

The Daily Telegraph 28/10/07

BBI: We ignored last Sunday`s rant, it was so poisonous, yet pointless. Today`s was much the same, but as Piers was on the Insiders (ABC) today, running the same line, we will run this. He talks about interest rate hikes. Keating`s interest hikes were apparently in bigger quantem leaps than Howards. What this proves we don`t know, apart from the fact that Keating was trying to recover from John Howard`s stint as Treasurer.

"Although it's indisputable that there have been five interest-rate rises since March, 2005 and the prospect of a sixth on Melbourne Cup day seems, according to all the economists, a foregone conclusion, Labor wants to skim over the details. "

"Why? Because each of those rate rises has been by just 0.25 per cent, for a total increase of 1.25 per cent over three years. "

"During last Monday's worm-infested debate, Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd counted on his fingers to lampoon the five 0.25 per cent increases." ...

"Labor claims to be able to manage an economy. The evidence clearly demonstrates otherwise, as Paul Keating's presence reminded us last week.  "

BBI: There you go Piers, you`ve had your say. But you have conveniently ignored the fact that Keating set the agenda for Australia`s prosperity in the late 90`s and the mining boom has carried that on. It is in fact a furphy that the conservatives have been great economic managers. They have really been incredibly lucky.

..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 22/10/07

BBI: Piers is at his vitriolic best. Some people could think that Piers name calling and his comparisons to "creepy crawlies" (Political insects: all slime, no spine) might be in bad taste. Some say that Piers in person is not quite as attractive as his Telegraph photo. Not us, of course.

"Some (insects) have developed markings at their nether ends, making it extremely difficult for enemies to distinguish between heads and tails and determine which end is which. "

"Hawker Britton, the ALP’s image makers, have clearly borrowed from the animal kingdom in formulating the makeover of candidate Kevin Rudd, the man-who-would-be-prime minister. "

"He is the self-confessed mimic of all that is good with Coalition policy, yet retains a modicum of venom for those who come too close to revealing his clever disguise. "..

"All of the above traits were on display during the alleged debate on Sunday night as Rudd first professed a kinship with the successes of the Coalition Government and then opposition to those areas of its policy which he cannot sell to his financiers in the trade union movement."

BBI: Alleged debate? Oh, that`s right, Howard lost so it wasn`t really a debate. Howard would have won a real debate, wouldn`t he, Piers. He goes on about the worm incident, omitting much of the real detail, and disparages the worm generally.

"As a political indicator, the worm is on a par with the majority of broadsheet pundits, most of whom seem but a kneejerk away from a profound opinion."

BBI: We presume he means opinions like his own. Profound ones. Piers then takes Rudd to task because criticising Howard as treasurer under Fraser is criticising Fraser.

"Given Fraser is now a Labor icon with a status close to matching Ben Chifley, Gough Whitlam and Bob Hawke, it is remarkable that Rudd can believe the laird of Nareen took his eye off the ball long enough for Howard to secretly manufacture and implement an economic policy totally unbeknownst to his leader."..

"No matter which way the worm turned, it was quite clear that the man who put forward the realistic ideas for a positive future for Australia was Howard, in terms of the economy, in terms of security and in terms of the overall welfare of all Australians. "

"Rudd mimicked the incumbent right down the line but for the retrogressive forward-to-the-past add-ons that his union bankers are demanding. "

"As for worms, Greens leader Bob Brown likes them, Rudd likes them, but let’s be frank, does anyone in their right mind really want a spineless creep as a friend? "

BBI: We wonder what debate Piers actually watched. And we wonder who Piers` friends are. But we know that his column isn`t ghost written, nobody else could get that much union bashing into the article.

........................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 17/10/07

"OVER the past two months, Opposition leader Kevin Rudd complained that the Coalition was afraid of calling an election.
Labor, he bragged, was ready to roll.
On Sunday, Prime Minister John Howard called that election.
On Monday, Rudd said he wasn’t ready to discuss the ALP’s tax policy.
Now Rudd is dancing around the question of a debate.
He’s ready for three, he says, but not the one the Coalition wants this Sunday.
How long does it take for Rudd to prepare for anything? "

BBI: This is Piers opening gambit, but then he gets back onto his favourite, THE HEINER AFFAIR. He goes back over all of his previous accusations including the shredded documents, which have been found, and quoting Kevin Lindeberg once more in case some of his readers may have missed it.

"There is a growing list of people who believe that the Heiner Affair is crying out for a thorough investigation and if the man who insists he is ready to be the next prime minister had any association with this awful chapter in Australian legal history, he must reveal what he knew of the illegal document shredding and cover-up of abuses."

BBI: This growing list of people must be some of Piers readers, who unfortunately must read only his column. This affair has been discredited by many public servants, police investigators and all the journos who have looked at it (apart from Piers who has been called an oafish conspiracy theorist and fanatic).

"Australia needs to know why the Goss government, incorporating the current Opposition leader, acted as it did, before it votes on November 24. And for the sake of justice, needs to know why this matter remains unresolved. "

BBI: Talk about flogging a dead horse. We have reviewed some 10 of Piers' masterpieces and found that 3 were entirely on the Heiner affair, he has been pictured in other papers at meetings where he was trying to discredit Rudd by raising this issue that so many others have declared is not worthy of mention.

..................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 15/10/07

BBI: Day 2 of the election campaign and Piers has chosen his personal attack subject for the day. And the lucky winner is...Janelle Saffin, the endorsed ALP candidate for Page.

"OPPOSITION Leader Kevin Rudd, when not endorsing Coalition policies, has opted for a small target strategy. "

"Some of the candidates the Labor Party has endorsed don’t have the same luxury. "

"The paper trails they’ve left in their wakes look as if a cyclone hit the Tempe tip. "

"One of these litter lines leads to militant feminist Janelle Saffin, the endorsed ALP candidate for Page on the NSW North Coast, a seat which was held by National Ian Causley, a former State Minister, who hopes to be succeeded by National candidate Chris Gulaptis, a local mayor. "

BBI: Militant feminist eh Piers?. He tells of how Saffin was in the NSW upper house, who left with a pension and..

.."a taxpayer funded package of goodies including a free digital camera, laptop and mobile phone.."

BBI: Bloody hell, Piers, what will those militant feminists be up to next. Taking a free digital camera is only the start of jobs for the boys etc. He then goes on sympathising with John Fitzroy who was cast aside for Paul Sefky in Cowper. Then back to bark at Saffin who had been a director with...

"..taxpayer-funded NGO Australian Legal Resources International (ALRI) went into administration leaving taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket. "

"Politically, it was well to the Left, it was supported by Labor lawyers, and was chosen by the late and unlamented terrorist leader Yasser Arafat to work with his corrupt Palestinian Authority in 1997. "

"It also assisted a Sharia law institute in the Maldives. "

"As a director, Saffin would have had to sign off on the organisation’s accounts and spending, including presumably, Einfeld’s stays in the Caribbean, supposedly to “clear the backlog” of legal cases there. "

BBI: Brilliant Piers. He manages to tie in Marcus Einfeld (allegedly disgraced hero of the left), Yasser Arafat and Sharia Law, all buzz-words designed to frighten the conservative waverers.

If Saffin is the sort of candidate the ALP believes will appeal to voters in marginal seats it has targeted as winnable, it has severely - perhaps fatally - underestimated the commonsense of the Australian people.

With this sort of choice, Rudd is looking more and more like Mark (Latham) II.

BBI: And here`s the last frightener...The spectre of Mark Latham. Here at BBI we were distraught about a number of things Latham did, but he was prophetic about George Bush, wasn`t he?

The Daily Telegraph 14/10/07

BBI: What Piers, nothing about the Heiner affair. Piers is very much like Howard. He`s been thrown from the "Heiner horse" but he`s straight back up on a new one. This time he is (predictably) going for the throat about Rudd`s speech. Apparently it was not as good as Howards.

"KEVIN Rudd had the opportunity to make his case for a change of government yesterday and came off looking like he was auditioning for a role on Young Talent Time. "

"Not that he was asked to provide a spontaneous performance. Prime Minister John Howard had named the date more than two hours earlier. "

"But even given the chance to rehearse his lines, Rudd fell back on so many old favourites that his leadership call came off like a Play School re-run. "

"Howard’s posture and his ability to answer the toughest questions the Canberra press gallery could come up with at noon on a Sunday reminded poll-watchers that, yes, he is experienced, and, yes, he takes responsibility for his unpopular decisions. "

BBI: Some of us see it differently. Howard has never taken responsibility for us going to war on unfounded and incorrect informatio. He hasn`t taken responsibility for the Wheat Board fiasco with Saddam Hussein. And much more. Piers then goes on saying that..

"He said he wants an education revolution. That would confound parents across the country who have seen the education systems in their states undermined by bloody-minded teachers who belong to one of the most reactionary trade union bodies in the nation."

BBI: The teacher`s federation is a reactionary trade union? We think not. Why, how many strike days have they ever pulled. Maybe 2 or 3 half days, and always leaving some people at schools to look after children. In historical perspective, that is soft. Piers then proceeds to link Rudd with the "Doctor Death" problem in Queensland and the closure of hospitals under the Goss government.

"There’s really not much to the man, except whatever script is pushed into his hands by his trade union spin doctors. "

BBI: We think that there is really not much to you, Piers except whatever script is pushed into your hands by the conservatives.

.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 10/10/07

"WE’VE all seen Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd in Labor’s television commercials saying: “In the end, the buck will stop with me.” "

"Strangely, the buck actually seems to stop with anybody but the Dear Leader. "

BBI: Piers goes on to list all of his perceived Rudd gaffes then swings on to the death penalty story. He then talks about how Rudd is effectively gagging ALP candidates.

"If MPs and aspiring ALP candidates can’t be trusted to speak for themselves and answer questions intelligently, what reason is there to believe that they would be able to do so if Rudd won office? "

"Perhaps Labor has a wily post-victory plan to implant them all with micro-receivers so they can all sing the same song from the party manifesto and stay in step as they march forth into brave new Ruddworld."

"If this is so, it will be essential that the receivers have the capacity to deliver stereophonic if not quadraphonic signals, as there seem to be at least two sides to each of Comrade Rudd’s points of view. "

BBI: Comrade Rudd? Is that a subtle attempt to raise the communist spectre? Anyway, its been good that John Howard has allowed his team to say what they wanted to. Remember the immigration fiasco with Petro, Bruce and Judy. Head office were ringing them daily to make sure they were back under the umbrella. We figure Piers didn`t have much to say about this, his heart wasn`t in it. He`s possibly licking his wounds from his failure to kick-start the Heiner affair.

Then we saw this blog on Piers` page..

Your good mate/boss the Lying Rodent Howard blames everyone except himself. And he has good form.  Well you wouldn’t admiit to that would you, otherwise you will not be invited to Liberal party functions.  Get used to it, the Coalition is in bad shape and you will say and do anything to prop them up. Just like your mate Johnny, you having been looking and sounding desperate.  Oh by the way, I am surprised you have not written another of your silly Heiner articles. gsm of chatswood.

BBI: Silly Heiner articles, we liked that.

"FEDERAL Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd has launched a low-key attack on the Government’s decision to cut back on the number of African refugees after earlier offering support to the controversial policy, according to his supporters at Brisbane’s Courier-Mail. "...

"...Rudd said darkly: “I think the Australian people will draw their own conclusions about whether they are fair-dinkum.”

BBI: Rudd said darkly?

"Well, let’s not take whatever Rudd says as gospel and do what the Courier-Mail failed to do - examine the facts and perhaps even answer some of the questions."

BBI: Bloody hell, Piers is now examining the facts. He goes on to say what the ministers have told us over the last 18 months

"Rudd did not make any comment then, but now is attempting to invoke the change as evidence of racial factors being introduced to the campaign."

BBI: Many people thought that Andrews had introduced racism to the argument with his comments last week. Then Piers brings up past Labor racist atrocities including Arthur Caldwell`s famous statement made some 40 plus years ago. Piers omits to mention Andrews statement of a week ago, but recalls one some 40 years ago. Then he finishes with...

"When it comes to immigration, Labor has played the race card from the bottom of the deck and wants to be able to do so if it wins office. "

BBI: We think he means that "we`re (conservatives) not racist, but we think you (labor) are."

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Daily Telegraph 6/10/07

BBI: Piers is at it again. His story is more beat-up of the Heiner Affair, where he is reporting on things that he has been accused of helping to orchestrate. See other articles below.

"A GROWING chorus of influential voices are demanding a sweeping inquiry into the notorious Heiner affair in Queensland.  "

"FORMER Queensland police commissioner Noel Newnham, former State opposition leader Lawrence Springborg, and the founder of the Bravehearts, anti-paedophile crusader Hetty Johnson, yesterday demanded a sweeping inquiry into the notorious Heiner affair, Queensland’s outrageous evidence shredding and child sex abuse scandal. "

"Their support follows a specious claim by The Australian newspaper that the driving force behind moves for a thorough investigation had been identified as a “coalition of right-wing extremists and conspiracy theorists’’."

BBI: A specious claim? If Piers hasn`t been leading this particular charge, we don`t know who has. See Alan Ramsey`s dissection of the story in SMH 29/09/07, link on right this page.

"Bravehearts’ Hetty Johnson defended Heiner affair whistleblower Kevin Lindeberg from The Australian’s claims that the campaign had a political base. "

“I have known him for a very long time and these sort of attacks are unfair and inaccurate,’’ she said.

BBI: Bravehearts eh? Any relation to Mel Gibson? But seriously, every person Piers has ever quoted as being interested in this matter have been from the far right of the Conservatives. This article only serves to prove The Australian is correct on the matter. And that is saying something, The Australian is correct. Piers then places a lengthy blog where Scot Balson claims innocence of all things (so it seems) which somehow, according to Piers, will prove that the Australian article is wrong. Other bloggers say Piers is trying to flog a dead horse. We agree.

The Daily Telegraph 4/10/07

BBI: Nobody does holier-than-thou as well as Piers. Well, maybe Gerard, but Piers gives it a red hot go today. Lindsay Tanner, according to Piers, has made unsubstantiated claims in parliament. He sets the scene denying the Libs smear campaign.

"SINCE March, Federal Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd and his deputy Julia Gillard have been trying to cow critics into silence by whining to anyone who will listen that they and the ALP are, or will be, victims of a terrible smear campaign orchestrated by secret dirt units within the Coalition. "

"So far they have been unable to produce any evidence of such a strategy, though they claim it to be the mainstay of the Government’s federal election campaign. "

"If Rudd and Gillard thought those newspaper cuttings (shown to Fairfax Journo Jason Koutsoukis) constitute a smear campaign they should consult Lindsay Tanner, the MP for Melbourne, who can show them what real mud-slinging looks like. "

"Tanner, who, frighteningly, would be finance minister ..."

BBI: He proceeds to quote Tanner`s linking of the CEFA with the Australians for a Constitutional Monarchy as a supposed Tax scam. The Tax office investigated and dismissed the claims (which were made before Rudd was leader), ergo..

"Tanner’s witch hunt cost the Australian taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars."...

"And Kevin Rudd, who says he models his life on that of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a Christian executed by the Nazis for his role in the resistance against Adolf Hitler, believes the graceless dirt-merchant Tanner is fit for his front bench. "

"Spare us. "

BBI: And Tanner didn`t even reply to a firm letter written by Professor David Flint. Honestly, those Labor chaps have no style. Another sherry David? Thanks Piers, don`t mind if I do.

BBI: Piers is a local hero apparently. We read this piece and were undecided how to approach it, but mention the story because of what his bloggers had to say. Piers is a volunteer fireman. Over the years he has tried to start a few political fires. Click above link to read the story.

Wow, that’s what comes out of Piers after a 1 am snifter of the white right? Pointless post mate…

Subtext ; It’s all Kevin Rudd’s fault. Vote Labor; get more bushfires.

BBI: We fell about laughing at the thought of Piers struggling valiantly up the hill. That`s not to say we don`t applaud his effort, its just that being a volunteer is not something a modest man would brag about.

The Daily Telegraph 27/09/07

"Serious allegations of obstruction of justice have been made against Federal Opposition leader Kevin Rudd in the Tasmanian Parliament."

BBI: These allegations were made by Michael Hodgman who quoted from a 3000 page document naming Wayne Goss, and every living member his Cabinet, and a number of key public servant (including Kevin Rudd). Then Piers reveals where Hodgman obtained his information possibly by saying...

'Mr Hodgman quoted a column by The Daily Telegraph’s columnist Piers Akerman, in which he wrote: ``But what can be said about an Opposition Leader who may have been complicit in the illegal shredding of evidence?’’ '

'``That is Kevin Rudd,’’ Mr Hodgman said. '

BBI: So Piers is quoting Hodgman who is quoting Piers. We say "what can be said about a journalist who quotes a politician saying what the journalist said." Bloody hell, Piers, you`ve done yourself proud this time.

The Daily Telegraph 17/09/07

"WHEN voters begin to focus more closely on this year’s federal election, they must ensure they carefully examine what Labor says and what the party actually means. "...

"Macklin told The Australian that the UN’s declaration provided “in-principle support by the international community for improving the lives of indigenous people and their children,” adding, “Australian law would always prevail”. "

"Macklin is wrong. There is nothing in the declaration which would improve the lives of indigenous people or their children. Nor is she in any position to guarantee Australian law would always prevail. "

BBI: If you care to read Piers article, he accuses a blogger with. "Just garbage. No argument, no evidence, pure bile. Thank you for this display of intemperate Howard-hating, Leftist rubbish." Yet he does not produce proof, just" Macklin is wrong."

"Macklin’s populist position was supported by Labor insider Peter Botsman, a former ALP worker and director of its think tanks, the Evatt Foundation and the Whitlam Foundation. "

“Jenny Macklin has given indigenous Australians a reason to vote Labor again with some hope."( says Botsman)

BBI: Then Piers outs the boot into that idea.

"Not if they want to live in modern Australia in a modern economy and share the expectations of modern Australians."

BBI: Piers may be amazed to find that many Australians, indigenous or not, would not necessarily want to live as he does, him being a modern Australian and all. He then praises Brough, bags the ABC, ALP and Macklin, has a swipe at "recently invented traditional rights" before finishing with..

"Labor’s policies would permit its supporters to parade their hearts on their sleeves but ensure indigenous people continue mopping up their blood with theirs. "

BBI: See, he is on the side of indigenous people after all.

The Daily Telegraph 15/09/07

BBI: Piers runs the line that John Howard is completely honest by announcing that he would give up his position some time next term if the Australian people were kind enough to re-elect him. Unlike those nasty Labor Politicians like Bob Carr, Geoff Gallup, Steve Bracks and now Peter Beattie.

"IN the time-honoured tradition of Queensland’s showmen premiers, Peter Beattie managed a teary farewell for the television cameras as he blubbered his farewells to the public he had so markedly failed. "

"The predictable political eulogies to the man with the disarming, split-watermelon grin were led by federal Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd, never a particularly close friend.  "

BBI: He then catalogues (quoting Peter Wear, The Australian) a litany of crimes by Beattie`s former colleagues. He goes on..

"It might have seemed that Queensland was about to turn a new corner when Governor Quentin Bryce, a former national sex discrimination commissioner, (who made much of the gender of Beattie’s successor, former trade union boss, Anna Bligh, and women’s rights activists) at the swearing in-ceremony on Thursday. "

BBI: Not a women`s rights activist, Piers. What is the world coming to?
Piers then proceeds to enlighten us re " the scandalous Heiner Affair".

"But sadly, that appears not to the case."..

BBI: He then talks of a cover up by Queensland Governments and finishes with..

"The tragic rape victim, whose case inspired this cruel diatribe, still pines for a skerrick of justice."

BBI: And here is the punch line. After Piers has run his article and received a few comments he has posted a blog of his own. At BBI we think it is very revealing.

"Perhaps the feminist activists can get off their bums and give this victim justice. This is not about politics, it’s about setting something right. You may not understand the principle."

The Daily Telegraph 9/09/07

BBI: Piers is once again on the case of Journalists who have got it wrong.

"WHEN the ABC favourably quotes conservative columnists, alarm bells should begin to ring."

"But the flagship evening radio current affairs program PM began its end-of-the-week wrap-up on Friday by noting that The Australian's Janet Albrechtsen and The Herald Sun's Andrew Bolt had questioned whether Prime Minister John Howard should abdicate. "

BBI: Piers bags Bolt and Albrechtsen and says ..

"..cooler heads examining all the data are not convinced that all is lost and that it is time to jettison Howard as leader in a final throw of the dice."

BBI: Piers is one of the cooler heads apparently. Then he points out that some people have done their homework. Meaning himself we presume.

"Anyone who has really put in the yards observing Australian politics would be well aware of the very poor record members of the Canberra press pack, and many others who count themselves as members of the commentariat, have with their prognostications. "

"For the most part, they might be more accurately informed if they studied tea leaves, or perhaps the lees in their wine glasses. "

BBI: He then goes on to extol the virtues of JWH.

"Howard has stuck to a mantra about the leadership ever since the question was first raised. He has steadfastly repeated that he will remain leader for as long as his party wishes him to remain. The commentariat, however, seems psychologically incapable of taking him at his word."

BBI: We wonder why some people have trouble taking him at his word? And as long as as his party wants him? Two days later he announced he would go mid term. Didn`t he tell you, Piers?

"This is not to say that the man (Howard) is not equipped with ultra-sensitive political antennae. He is. And while there are a few whose political acumen he respects enough to take into account, he essentially weighs such matters in his own mind while listening to the opinions of those others."

BBI: We are guessing that he may have been listening to you, Piers. Almost everyone save you and he have known for a long time that he should go. Piers then has a go at SMH journalists, especially his old foe, David Marr regarding their APEC pieces, but assures the faithful all will be well and compares this election to the 1979 Fastnet yacht race.

"Those who mustered the courage to stay with their boats and weather the storm came through safely."  top ........................................................................................................................................................................................................................

From The Daily Telegraph 7/8/07

"THE Sydney Morning Herald gave front-page space Friday to breathlessly report staff in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet had been caught editing online fantasy project Wikipedia, to remove unflattering details that might damage the Government. "

"Like Wikipedia itself, the SMH’s story was riddled with inaccuracies - beginning with a claim in the first paragraph that Department staff had removed material from the site’s files."

"Online disinformation is a scourge of our times, as anyone who has been forced to read some of thecomments posted by wannabe commentators on newspaper columnists’ blogs. It figures, perhaps, that those with the most time on their hands would be most inclined to live their lives in front of a computer screen indulging their fantasies by offering anonymous abuse, convoluted conspiracy theories or totally irrelevant observations."

BBI: Not only on the internet, but on occasions in newspapers and on Television. Its great to know we have you Piers, to keep an open eye on things.
